  • Choosing A Scooter for Short Commutes – Electric Scooter

The news from the Middle East, no matter when you read this, is likely to be pretty grim, with wars and problems threatening to make oil and consequently, gasoline, become ever more expensive. However, before you rush out to buy an electric car, consider the option of looking at power scooters instead. These little babies are great for short commutes around town, to take you to and from the grocery shop and even down to the dentist’s office. Here’s what you need to know:

    Economical

First of all, power scooters are economical. Whereas a gas powered car can get, at best around 30MPG, gas powered scooters can do something in the neighborhood of 100MPG. Yes, that’s right – power scooters can do as well for you as a Chevy Volt or a Nissan Leaf. Plus, while the power scooters that you see on your city streets may not get the oohs and ahhs that your Chevy Volt is getting, the fact is that the owner of the Chevy Volt will spend around 20 times the amount of money for his car as you’ll spend for your scooter.

    Convenient

Another great thing about power scooters is the convenience factor. Let’s face it – when you drive around in a car, especially in the city, not only do you have more of a chance of getting stuck in a traffic jam, but you also have a much better chance of being trapped without parking. Try getting around New York City during rush hour for example, and you’ll be sitting in traffic for an hour and then pay a garage $30 for 30 minutes to park your car, if you can even get into the garage (many of them have signs up saying that they’re full, even at the crazy prices they charge).

Compare that with power scooters and you quickly realize that it’s no contest. Power scooters can get around traffic jams while still remaining perfectly safe, allowing you to get to where you need to get to quickly and easily. Add to that the fact that power scooters can easily be parked by chaining them to a pole and you’ll got a winning combination.

    Better for the Environment

For the environmentally conscious amongst us, even the electric car can’t beat power scooters as far as providing the feeling of doing good for the environment. It’s a simple matter of physics. If you were to use an electric scooter for example, you’re simply moving that much heft since you don’t have a whole car around you which needs to move together with you. You just have a little engine with two wheels. This means that no matter how efficient electric cars get, they’ll never be as friendly for the environment as power scooters.

    Bottom Line

The bottom line is this: power scooters are a great choice for all of your short commuting needs. While you may not want to ride one on a 3,000 mile cross country trip, for everything else, including the average commute that most of us have to work or to the grocery store, it’s clear that nothing beats power scooters.

  • Micro Mobility: The Transition in the Landscape in Portugal | e-Scooter

Twelve years ago, Lisbon was in dire straits. The 2008 financial crisis hit the Portuguese capital hard, and its citizens faced uncertainty, high unemployment, and decaying infrastructure. Bruising austerity program required by the EU, the IMF, and the European Central Bank were among the strict steps taken to get the country back on track. A changing landscape. Gaspar is working with Lisbon’s municipal transport company, Carris, to launch the new park, ride projects, and bus corridors and improve the number of Micro Mobility vehicles in use at the public transport system.

With its planned acquisition of 420 buses and 25 trams by 2023 to the increasing demand, capacity is growing to a €252 million investment. Furthermore, the strategy is part of a target to shift 150,000 motorists to more sustainable modes of travel by 2030.

    Environment Friendly Micro Mobility Vehicles

Gaspar said that one of the biggest challenges we face is our commitment to hitting carbon emissions targets by 2030, and added that it’s not a lot of time because ten years is like one day in city life and that time goes by very quickly.

This plan towards more eco-friendly modes of mobility has also seen Lisbon embrace micro-mobility. In particular, the e-scooter phenomenon is currently over 12,000 in the city operated by nine companies. Thus, it is unlikely to walk along its winding streets without encountering one. At the same time, public opinion will still sharply divided, with some seeing e-scooters as the perfect solution to city center journeys. In contrast, others may consider an unwelcome scourge on the streets.

In July last year, the district council for Santa Maria Maior oversaw much of the historic center and the neighboring areas, introducing fines of between €60 and €300 for those companies that rented scooters litter sidewalks and also public space.

Also, the council further banned the parking of scooters on pavements and in most places that are known to obstruct vehicles on pavements. With this, a removal fee introduced to cover these companies.

Regulating the Usage of Electric Scooters

In a report by the Portuguese newspaper Publico. There was a regulation that extends to shared bicycles parked carelessly in public spaces. The Lisbon Municipal Police claimed that they had removed over 1,800 poorly parked scooters from February and June 2019, with charging fees of over €17,000.

Gaspar has been very optimistic that despite this. He says Lisbon’s attitude was based on engaging with the operators and not taking an overly strict approach.

While enabling the private sector to operate e-scooters, the city has also taken a more hands-on approach with other micro-mobility modes. Hence Uber’s Jump–and Hive–have launched bike-share schemes in the Portuguese capital. The municipal mobility company, Gira, which operates the lion’s share.

There are currently just over 450 shared-bikes operated by the city provider. Two-thirds of which are electric—an essential consideration when one looks at Lisbon’s cobbled streets and hilly terrain.

Gaspar also said that this engenders trust with private sector operators. They understand that they need to engage the city in a dialogue where both need to converge on their positions. He also explained that he is open to innovation in the city, emphasizing the two red lines of public safety and public space quality. He mentioned that we view new things through soft and hard regulation because we need to learn how to regulate it.

Looking at Other Cities for Inspiration

When searching for innovations and methods of getting results, the city has employed a relatively straightforward approach. In a statement from Gaspar, he believed that in Lisbon, any good idea is an idea that should copy. He added the list of some of the cities that have inspired Lisbon’s transformation. Porto, Barcelona, Copenhagen, London, and Los Angeles.

Lisbon was also inspired by Los Angeles to become the first city in Europe to adopt the Mobility Data Specification (MDS). Thus this provides a template for data sharing for dockless bike-shares providers e-scooters. As well as the shared-ride providers that work within the public right of way. After the launch in Los Angeles in September 2018, Gaspar saw its potential benefits and has adapted it to his city’s needs.

Gaspar said that all the e-scooter operators are sharing their data, and thus this improves the decision-making. However, he said that he started having conversations with Los Angeles and is sharing learned experience to improve it further.

As micro-mobility has been leading cities by storm, other discussions surrounding the future of mobility. The initiation of autonomous vehicles (AVs), and even flying taxis have also been increasingly controlling discussions in the transport circles.

Lisbon’s revival came from a back-to-basics approach that delivers citizens and visitors. Thus, the services they need to go about their daily business, and your city will thrive.

He also mentioned that it is good to have someone speak about what the future holds. And asking what the ethical issues and technical challenges behind the introduction of AVs are. He urged that they cannot put all the effort into this. If there is no bus arriving on time like a subway to reach certain parts of the city or a transport on-demand.

    Sustainable Mobility Pact

Last December 2019, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Lisbon City Council, BCSD Portugal. And fifty-six leading companies confirmed the Corporate Mobility Pact (CMP). And have committed to over 200 mobility actions intended to make mobility more sustainable in Lisbon.

Fernando Medina, Mayor of Lisbon, said that the Carbonation presents itself as the greatest challenge of our generation. He said that there is a need to reduce emissions and make all types of transport more sustainable. Every day counts, and every action is essential, he added.

The signatories will adopt a set of measures that aim to help the city have a safer, accessible, greener, and more efficient mobility system. The pact seeks to promote supply and demand for multi-modal solutions. By creating conditions for employees to adopt new behaviors and solutions and extending these measures to suppliers and customers.

  • Self-balancing Hoverboards: Is this the end? – Electric Scooter

These electric hoverboards got every Marty McFly supporters dancing in victory – but not for long. Hoverboards or the self-balancing two-wheeled boards have caught the attention of many, including the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or CPSC.

Apparently, this Back to the Future –inspired ride has been so hot it exploded – figuratively and literally, just when it was released in 2015.  Many have reported problems after hoverboards have exploded and caused damage to homes and automobiles.

Investigations had been carried out which prompted the CPSP to put the makers, distributors, retailers and importers of hoverboards on notice. Furthermore, the CPSC has also issued a new set of safety standards that manufacturers and relations should implement.

Failure to comply with the standards may eventually lead to both criminal and civil penalties. Products can also be automatically recalled or confiscated.

What does CPSC have to say about safety concerns on Hoverboards?

In a letter issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to the manufacturers, retailers, and importers of self-balancing hoverboards,   the federal agency stated the hoverboards in question do not meet the safety standards and that they pose risks of fire to users. The letter also emphasized that the use of the said hoverboards had already been linked to damages amounting to $2 Million which includes the burning of two houses and a car.  The letter also mentioned that there is now an existing a number of incidents which may all be linked to  the use of hoverboards. Had the voluntary standards been observed, the agency reiterated that the said problems could have been avoided. Note that these problems may even cause death if not addressed well.

The federal agency n also wrote the possibility of these items being confiscated or recalled if the importers and manufacturers remain non-compliant with safety standards.  Several of the fire incidents mentioned in the letter started while the hoverboards were being charged, while others happened while it was being used.  Aside from the fire incidents that took place in the US, there have also been issues reported in  Hongkong and the US.  During the holiday season of 2015, Hoverboards were reported to be among the top present ideas requested by young individuals.  These electric scotters remained as a top choice for many despite the initial reports that problems involving the defective parts or battery could  pose major risks.

    What could be the problem?

It is crucial to note that the safety issues brought about by the agency do not only target specific manufacturers.  Regardless of the price, model, or the brand itself – all hoverboards should pass the safety standards specified by the CPSC. To be able to be classified as ‘safe’ again, the manufacturers must secure a certification for safety from the Independent Certification Authority  UL.  Prior to obtaining the certificate, shops selling hoverboards that are deemed unsafe may have to cease to operate until they will be declared as safe againIn short, without the safety certification, the shop may not be able to do business. This is a particular policy in the US. However,  those who buy hoverboards on-line may still check if the product of their choice is UL-compliant.

The social media have also been plagued with several news stories showing hoverboards-related accidents or fires.  While there is no specific brand being mentioned by the CPSC,   hoverboards’ main problem has been associated with poor electrical circuitry.  Investigations had also ruled out that several  Chinese manufacturers failed to include safety components that would  control the power supply from the source once the battery has been charged to the fullest.  The absence of this safety component results in overheating of batteries leading to explosions or fires. The question now is whether the hoverboard will remain to be insanely popular among people.  Improvement in the circuitry, as well as safety measures, could possibly make the hoverboard a top choice for this year as well.

What  does the UL Certification entail?

The UL Certification is basically a measure that supports the public safety goal of UL. UL is a safety science organization that has been recognized worldwide. It has a century-long history of expertise when it comes to innovating safety-centered solutions involving electricity adoption up to the breakthroughs in renewable energy, nanotechnology, and sustainability. UL fundamental role is to help consumers and safeguard them by facilitating trade and implementing measures  that would promote environments that are safe for both living and working. The safety certification is issued by UL once its group finds the product safe for everyday use via testing.

UL 2272 refers to the safety certification provided for the electrical systems in self-balancing hoverboards.  The certificate can be obtained either by the manufacturers or the retailers.  The standard is focused mainly on the electrical system equipped in every hoverboard sold in the US but does not  evaluate the performance or the reliability of the said product. As part of the test, UL highly recommends users to find the UL certification label that has an enhances mark typically placed at the bottom of the hoverboard for safety precaution. UL also suggests that then hoverboard must be charged away from any material that is flammable.  Overcharging or not following the recommended manner of charging must also address by the owner.  Moreover, only the charger that came with the product must be used.

Who are UL certified hoverboard manufacturers?

Hoverboards have truly mushroomed in the last 24 months and selecting the UL certified ones may be a tad challenging. To help you check the hoverboard of your choice, you may stick with the following brands:  Product from Hangzhou Intelligent Technology Co Ltd, Wuyi Chuangxin Metal  Tools Co Ltd, Razor USA, Shenzen Global E-Commerce Co Ltd, and Ninebot by Segway mini Pro.  These are the manufacturers that have successfully secured the UL certificate up to May 2016. The list of companies also grows by the day. If you would like to check the company that manufactured your item. you may go directly on –line.  Moreover, you can also specify your search by including the specific model  of electric scotters you would like to check.

    What makes UL certification reliable?

So you may be wondering – why has the US federal government chosen UL to provide the certification? The answer is simple – expertise!  UL’s  expertise in the Battery and Energy Storage Technology makes it the most reliable group to conduct and guarantee safe manufacturing,  utilizing, and  handling of latest technologies that are used to test energy storage platforms. This means stationary or portable batteries such as those used in hoverboards can be tested. UL also has the top battery experts and has been involved in several  studies concerning battery technologies for more than three three decades. The group has a website that details the projects and the missions they have in carrying out their duty to safeguard consumers.  Reports and other links can be accessed via UL’s website.

Final pointers for self-balancing hoverboards future users

Regardless of the problems encountered by previous users or buyers of hoverboards, it is still safe to say that may still continue to aspire to cruise like McFly.  In order to ensure that you are purchasing the real deal and not a knock-off,  try purchasing them on legitimate websites such as Amazon. Re-sellers are verified and quality standards are checked thoroughly.  Although these products no longer exist at this point (or until further notice)  at the website, you can still purchase directly via the manufacturing websites. You may also confirm with the seller or re-seller about the UL certification of the product.  Note, non UL-certified electric scotters cannot be sold on the market. Another tip is to avoid hoverboard without any brand or those that cost less than $300.  These are likely to be counterfeit and are not certified safe to use.  Above all, reading reviews and on-line news on hoverboard update is highly recommended.

  • Electric scooter battery doesn't charge? What you should know and do – Electric Scooter

Your e-scooter’s battery doesn’t charge? Bummer! Almost every electric scooter user will experience issues with their device. Generally, e-scooters are durable, built to last, and require little maintenance. But while this is true, you should not wait until the last minute to fine tune your device. Your electric scooter’s usability and integrity depend on how you operate and maintain it at certain times. You do always take good care of your e-scooter, don’t you? If yes, then why the battery doesn’t charge?

The most common e-scooter issues are related to the battery packs, electric motor, and tires, but battery is the biggest issue of concern – and biggest worry – of users. Indeed, a battery that unexpectedly does not charge and work properly is every user’s worst nightmare. If your battery doesn’t charge, you get no power and no mile.

What you should know about e-scooter batteries

E-scooter batteries are rated according to their amount of energy output in terms of voltage (V) and ampere hour (AH).

About battery voltage, electric scooters are typically configured in 24V, 36V, and 48V set-ups. Generally, higher voltage means faster running speed. Meaning, higher voltage e-scooters are faster than low voltage ones. It should be that, but this is not always true. There are factors that can affect an electric scooter’s speed, such as rider’s weight, power and efficiency of motor, and type of terrain. So in certain circumstances, expect an e-scooter on 24V battery pack to have the same maximum speed as that of the device that runs on 36V.

On the other hand, an AH indicates an e-scooter’s range potential. It measures a battery’s capacity or its amount of energy charge. Higher AH rating means greater maximum distance. To know how far an electric scooter can go, check the AH rating. Still, there are factors like rider’s weight and terrain, that can limit an e-scooter’s range potential.

    Why your battery doesn’t charge?

Your electric scooter’s battery is a vital component of your device, regardless of model, make, style, and size. If the battery doesn’t charge or work properly, your electric motor will not get the power it needs for the e-scooter to run. So it is important to maintain and charge your battery regularly in order to maximize its usability. If you use your device everyday, then charge it everyday. Before you go to bed, plug your e-scooter in and let it charge for the night about 8-12 hours.

If your battery doesn’t charge, the problem could be one of the three things. Either there is a charging problem, a drain on the battery pack, or simply your battery is becoming defective. What could make your battery pack go faulty? For one, wear and tear. A battery, like other parts and components of your electric scooter, is subject to life’s wear and tear. If you keep the same battery for more than two years, signs of defects should be showing, such as faster charging time, limited range and speed, low illumination of headlights (if your device has one), etc. A dying or worn-out battery doesn’t charge properly anymore, so this calls for replacement.

Perhaps there is a damage or two to the battery pack or e-scooter. Do you drive your device over water or uneven or unpaved surfaces (cracks, potholes, bumps, etc)? Do you perform extreme stunts with your electric scooter? Certain riding activities and environment may have caused stress to your device’s parts and components, especially to the battery, wires, and other electric components inside your device. This could be another reason why your battery doesn’t charge anymore.

Charging issues? If your battery is not at fault, you probably have a defective charger or charger port. Are you sure you are using the right charger for your electric scooter? Are you charging your device correctly? Are both charger and charger port working? You don’t over-charge, do you? There could be a reason why your battery doesn’t charge and work properly.

    Recommended charging procedure

Your electric scooter’s battery should be completely charged when the indicator light on the charger turns green after the required duration of charging (usually 8-12 hours for most e-scooters). If indicator light turns green after charging for a shorter period of time, the battery may not be fully charged, so continue charging for the full duration. It is okay to charge your device after each use even if the battery is not yet completely drained of its power.

Battery doesn’t charge? Check if your charger is working properly, follow these step:

    1. Check if you have the correct charger. It must have the accurate voltage for your device. If your electric scooter runs on a 36V (three 12V) 7AH battery, then you need a 36V 1.6AMP charger. Using the wrong charger is one reason why battery doesn’t charge.
    2. Plug the charger into a power outlet. The indicator light should be green.
    3. Next, plug the charger into your e-scooter’s charging port. Make sure it is plugged correctly. The indicator light should be red.
    4. Leave your device charged for the entire required duration. Refer to your user’s manual for the required charging time of your e-scooter. If it says 8 hours, then leave it charged for 8 hours. Do not overcharge.
    5. When indicator light is green again, charging is complete. Unplug charger from outlet and charger port. Your e-scooters is ready for use.

    Battery doesn’t charge? Troubleshoot!

You need to determine if either the battery or the charger is defective. Here are a few things you should do in case the battery doesn’t charge:

    • Check battery pack history. How long the battery is left uncharged? Just two days ago, last week, or more than 6 months? Battery should be charged after each use or every 30 days when in storage. If you have not charged it for more than 6 months, it is most likely to be defective.
    • Test the charger. Faulty charger is one reason why battery doesn’t charge. To check if it is malfunctioning, plug charger into your electric scooter and power outlet. Is the indicator light lit or blinking? If not, the charger is defective. Check charger again with the use of a multimeter to test its output voltage. Voltage should be a few volts above the charger’s rated voltage (24V, 36V, or 48V). If the output voltage is zero or below voltage, then charger is defective.
    • Inspect with touch, smell, and sight. Damage to your electric scooter is another reason why battery doesn’t charge. Check for anything unusual like a smell of a burnt rubber or plastic, loose or disconnected wires and wire connectors, frayed wires, etc. Overuse and overcharging of e-scooter can cause components to malfunction and eventually burn or melt.
    • Check for battery leak. Over-using or over-charging your e-scooter may cause the battery to develop leak, which is why battery doesn’t charge. You may also want to check the place where you keep your e-scooter. Is the temperature right? Is it near water sources or gas stove? Is the place free of rodents that might chew on your device. If your battery doesn’t charge, you can also blame it on the environment.
    • Test battery and/or charger on another e-scooter. If you own another electric scooter, why not test the battery or charger on it? That way you will know if the battery doesn’t charge or the charger doesn’t work. Make sure your other e-scooter is compatible with the problematic battery or scooter.

Test the charger port. If your battery or charger ain’t defective and the components are fine, the charger port might be the reason why battery doesn’t charge. Inspect the wires and connectors going to the charger port. No damage? Unplug charger from outlet and plug it into the charger port. Is the indicator light lit or blinking? If yes, then all is good. You can also test the charger port’s output voltage with the multimeter.

Add to that the fact that your motor scooter tank is around 1/3 to 1/4 the size of your traditional car gas tank and you quickly begin to see the appeal of riding a motor scooter instead of a car.

    Yes, They Have Trunks

One of the biggest complaints that many people have about riding a motor scooter is that they’ve seen the super cheap models sold by some big box stores which don’t have trunks and which seem like they’re little more than toys. Here’s a shocker of a news item: they are little more than toys. A real motor scooter, the kind that you’d actually want to own has a powerful engine to get you safely around town and includes at least a small trunk for taking some groceries home or for sticking your briefcase into your motor scooter. While they’re not going to let you do shopping for a family of six all at one time, these kinds of trunks are perfect when you forgot to buy a gallon of milk and you need to pop down to the all night Wal Mart to grab some for the morning.

Most People Own Them In Addition to a Car

While there are many people who do try to rely exclusively on a motor scooter for all their needs, most people report that they do keep a car for the occasional times when a motor scooter just won’t do. For example, in the middle of a serious snow drift, or when they need to take the entire family on a summer vacation. However, these same people say it’s totally worth it because they use their motor scooters for 90% of their transportation needs and save a fortune on gas, insurance and maintenance for their cars as a result of owning their motor scooter.

And Yes, Even People Who Work In Offices Use Them

Finally, for the office types who have to show up to work wearing a suit and tie, it is definitely possible to use a motor scooter. You simply have to arrange to neatly fold your jacket into the trunk so that it’s neat and fresh for when you arrive at work on you.

  • Scooter Sales Up as Gas Prices Rise – Electric Scooter

With the Arab Spring turning into a gasoline winter for the Western powers, scooter sales are heating up throughout the United States. “It’s a matter of economics,” says Jim Halinson, a scooter store owner. “More and more of our customers are coming in to ask not about the convenience of scooters, but about the gas mileage they get. They’re concerned about the possibility of $5 per gallon gasoline and our scooter sales are going through the roof because of it.”

    A Nationwide Trend

Nationwide, data does seem to support this trend. While full fledged motorcycles are still seen as being the province of men having a mid life crisis or motorcycle enthusiasts, the massive number of scooter sales would seem to indicate that even ordinary Americans are considering the mini bikes to be viable alternatives to their gas guzzling cars and SUVs.

Great for Quick Trips to the Grocery

While no one is saying that scooters will replace a car as the vehicle of choice for taking the family cross country or even for soccer moms dropping off hordes of kids at the local game, the number of scooter sales, even to those same soccer moms is increasing tremendously. The reason, consumer say is that they simply want something convenient to take down to the grocery store when they forget to buy a gallon of milk. It’s more economical and it’s more convenient than hopping in a car, these consumers say.

    Popular in Cites

It goes without saying that most scooters sales are happening in bigger cities as people tire of the problems with finding parking and dealing with crowded downtown areas and the attendant traffic jams. Instead, people want to look for a quick and easy method of getting around town and the answer has become the humble scooter.

A Worrying Trend in Tiny Scooters

However, not everyone is pleased about the recent upward trend in scooter sales. While the miniature bikes are generally considered to be quite safe when they are properly handled, many people are turning to big box stores like Costco and Sam’s Club to buy scooters and scooter sales at those chains tend toward the lower end of the spectrum. “I have people coming into my store all the time asking why the little 50CC scooter they bought at the local Costco doesn’t seem to be able to go up hills,” Mr. Halinson says, laughing. “I tell them that those things are worse than toys since people think they’re real scooters – they’re not. Those things have tiny engines and can actually kill when people ride them.

    Look for at Least 125CC

Mr. Halinson says that “the bare minimum” that consumers should look for when shopping different scooter sales is 125CC. These kinds of scooters, he says aren’t going to compete with motorcycles, which must have at least 1,000CCs, “but they’re good enough when you just want to go around the corner to the grocery store.” Still, he recommends that people who are serious look for at least 400CC or more and ignore the cheap deals that are available from some big box stores when they run periodic scooter sales.

  • Why Mopeds Are So Popular – Electric Scooter

Why Mopeds Are So Popular Today

Let’s face facts. The fact is that mopeds are popular today because the cost of gasoline has gone through the roof and frankly, the cost of everything under the sun has gone through the roof as well. It’s getting expensive just to be alive anywhere on earth, though especially in some parts of the United States and buying mopeds is one way that many people are trying to cut down on their expenses.

    Great Gas Mileage

The primary reason for buying mopeds is quite simply the amazing gas mileage that these vehicles get. Whereas one might reasonably expect to fill up with a tank of gas twice a week when driving a car, one generally doesn’t drop by the gas station more than once a month when driving a moped. This makes sense when you consider that mopeds can easily get as much as 200 MPG compared with the average car today, which gets around 28MPG.

This means that even though a moped may be able to hold only five gallons as opposed to the 18 gallons a large luxury vehicle could hold, the moped will still go much further on its five gallons of gas than that large luxury vehicle goes on its 18 miles of gas.

    Insurance

Another thing that mopeds have going for them is the whole insurance issue. Cars are expensive to insure, both against loss and against liability. By comparison, most moped owners report that they have minimal expenses and spend a fraction of what they used to spend when they insured their cars.

It’s simple really – mopeds simply don’t have the ability to do the kind of damage that a car can do and so the liability insurance costs less. Mopeds are also much cheaper to purchase than cars are, meaning that you don’t have to worry about the cost of theft insurance as much either.

    Parking

This is especially true for city dwellers. Mopeds can be parked pretty much anywhere you go. You can often tie them to a traffic pole with a heavy duty chain linked through the tires and walk away, safe in the knowledge that you won’t be ticketed and won’t have your moped stolen (after all, most thieves aren’t interested in stealing mopeds since there is less profit in them, unless of course you make it easy for them do it).

A car owner by comparison often has to find private parking, at exorbitant rates since they do have to worry about such things as alternate side of the street parking and tickets for parking in front of hydrants and other objects of that nature.

    Cheaper than Motorcycles

Finally, the thing driving sales of mopeds more than sales of other two wheeled powered vehicle is the fact that mopeds are infinitely cheaper to purchase then motorcycles are. They’re also considered to be a little less intimidating than motorcycles, although when most people are interviewed about their choice to purchase a moped over a motorcycle, they’ll sheepishly admit that it’s a matter of cost which drove them to look at mopeds.
