Electric Surfboards: Surf without waves – Electric Scooter
Electric surfboards for waveless surfing? Now that’s real! With technology, everything is possible. Two European firms bring an exciting new advancement to the field of electric mobility: Electric surfboards. What makes these boards special? How do they differ from standard surfboards? And should surfing enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies buy such a tech?
As their name suggest, electric surfboards have powerful motor engine which is the primary component in the art of waveless surfing. The motor allows surfers to effectively glide over flat water at sea and even on rivers, lakes and canals. Moreover, the electric surfboard is also designed for use in protected areas, since its motor is silent, electric and emission-free. By using such a device, the surfer is now a waveless rider, not just a wave rider. As long as there is enough room to glide over smooth water, the surfer is able to operate such a device in most bodies of water.
From Onean, different boards for different surfers
The Spanish firm responsible for this advancement in electric mobility, Onean has designed two electric surfboard models so far: The Carver and the Manta. The Carver is designed for speed and adventure, while the Manta is designed for relaxation. A third model, Blade, is currently in the works. Onean started working on the surfboards since 2013 and has launched them with the help of Bizintek Innova, an engineering and design firm in Biscay Province, Spain.
The Carver electric surfboard is similar to the shape of a standard surfboard, which is why the model is designed for serious surfers and adrenaline junkies alike. It has an elongated oval body shape and a tapered nose, and measuring at 245 x 68 cm (98 x 27 in), it is the longest of the two boards.
The Carver electric surfboard has a built-in 440w engine and an axial water pump, allowing the surfer to slalom or “carve” over the water at a maximum speed of 71km/h (44mph). It also has two foot straps to keep you safe on board, so if you are looking to perform tricks and stunts and make sharp turns, then this is the board for you. You can control the direction of the Carver as the same way as you would with a traditional surfboard. It also comes with a hand-held remote control, which buttons you press to control power and speed. The battery, when used at full throttle, can last about 20 minutes on a single charge. Retailed at $4485, the Carver is the ideal electric surfboard for the sporty and the adventurous.
If you are into relaxed trips, then the Manta electric surfboard should suit you. Rectangular in shape and heavier than the Carver, the stable and buoyant Manta measures 230 x 98 cm (91 x 39 in), reaches a speed of 8 km/h (5mph), and boasts a longer battery charge life (more than two hours) at a single charge. Retailing for $3800, the electric surfboard also sports a 440w motor, and the pack also includes a hand-held remote control, battery, charger, foot straps, leash, fin set, and paddle. The entry-level Manta is indeed perfect for peaceful long excursions at a slower pace. This also makes as an ideal practice surfboard for beginners.
The third model, Blade, is yet to be unveiled. Designed to provide optimal maneuverability for freestyle surfers and adrenaline junkies, the Blade electric surfboard is said to be the smallest and lightest, measuring 185 x 60 cm (73 x 24 in) and weighing 18kg. It runs at a speed of 53 km/h (33mph). When launched, it will have a retail price of $3942.
German firm not to be outdone
Another European firm also joined the crowd with their own contribution to electric mobility on water: the Lampuga electric surfboards. The firm Sashay GmbH, based in Hamburg, Germany, envisioned itself to be the creator of the fastest electric surfboards. (However, the honor belongs to Onean, creator of the Carver.) If the Onean boards emphasize multi-personality, the Lampuga emphasizes speed.
The Lampuga electric surfboards are made out of lightweight carbon fiber material, which makes it very easy to transport. Its electric engine produces 15hp of power, and its 52v lithium-ion battery provides up to 40 minutes of run-time in a single charge, enough to cover up to 20 km (12 miles) of range with a speed of 54 km/h (34mph).
The surfer controls the Lampuga electric surfboard with a combination of thrust control and steering belt. Thrust control is incorporated into the steering belt that is attached to the bow. The leash around the legs serves as an emergency stop mechanism that automatically shuts off the device should the surfer fall off or lose control of the surfboard. The grab handles on the surfboard’s deck provide steering and grip for electric kneeboarding.
Two Lampuga electric surfboard models have been released so far: the Lampuga Boost and the Lampuga Air. Both models boast of similar engine power (15hp), distance range (up to 20 km), battery charge life (up to 40 minutes) and charging time (two hours). The Boost model measures 249 x 82 cm (98 x 32 in), while the Air measures 210 x 70 cm (83 x 28 in). The electric surfboards are priced at $17,600 and $11,000 respectively.
Electric surfboards: Advancement on electric mobility
Through their electric surfboards, the developers and the engineers have successfully developed electric propulsion systems that can be used in water sports, especially surfing. Developers are even able to customize their systems to build different surfboards for different surfers. The incorporation of microprocessors and other electronics to control the engines and ensure the safe operation of the device on water was indeed a major breakthrough.
The motors and the batteries used on the electric surfboards are perhaps the most important advancements, and the ones that show the most promises for further innovation. Having developed a motor that is noiseless and emission-free is already a big feat, and this can be duplicated for water vehicles. It is already a plus point for electric surfboards to have fast battery charging time, but as of now, developers should look forward to building longer lasting batteries for the boards.
New opportunities for fun and business
The market for electric surfboards have yet to go on full blast, but the products are already gaining attention in the surfing community. The exorbitant price of the technology do come as a shock for many surfers who would like to try waveless surfing but are currently tight on the budget. But it will not take long for any enterprising firm or entrepreneur to duplicate the technology behind electric surfboards and start producing models that are more affordable than the ones currently available on the market.
The market could possibly introduce new sports and open up new opportunities for the extreme sport business. Soon there will be waveless surfing competitions in cities and water parks across the world. Surfing will finally reach the countryside where lakes abound, and at beaches not known for their waves, electric water sports will become the main attraction. There will be world championships too, and electric water sports will one day make its way to the Olympics.
For those who love to ride the waves, electric surfboards make surfing in all places and at all times a dream come true. Back in the days, if you want to surf on smooth water, you need to be towed by a motor boat. It was even impossible to attach a built-in motor to a surfboard as self-propelled surfboards were plain science fiction or an idea engineers were not ready to venture into back then. But thanks to electric mobility and the growing spirit of innovation, surfing has reached new heights or new places, to say the least. You no longer need to wait for the waves to go out surfing.

How To Fix An Electric Scooter – Electric Scooter
Electric scooters have a lot of charm. A quick ride around the neighborhood with the wind in your hair can change your mood for the better for the rest of the day. These fast, trendy scooters attract all age groups. They are no longer only for kids; there are some electric scooters with incredible firepower out there that attract adults too.
There is a range of electric scooters available from kids to adults. The electric kick-and-push scooters are great fun to ride and are very easy to maintain. The best part is, they have controlled speed, are environmentally friendly, and offer an excellent transportation alternative for short distances, including for students on college campuses or commuters.
If you regularly use your electric scooter, then there is a chance you may run into some operational issues. You might face a sudden breakdown. You might have problems starting the scooter.
Perhaps your motor is slowing down? I understand what is going on with your scooter and have a super-easy guide on what problems you may face and how to fix your electric scooter on your own. Here are step-by-step instructs to check what your problem is and instructions to repair it.
Finding the Problem
When one of our electrical gadgets is having a problem, we tend to get irritated and take it straight to the repair station without trying to figure out the problem first.
To find a solution to the problem, you first have to know what the problem is. So, if your electric scooter is throwing tantrums, you should inspect it properly and look for the root cause. I am sharing a few tips that will help you to identify the issue.
Suppose your scooter does not start with your switch key. Do not panic. Give it a few minutes. The very first thing you can do is to try pushing it along for a short distance. It may help to get things rolling.
Sometimes, you can troubleshoot that easily. Just push the scooter for a few yards, and it might ignite the engine. If it still does not start, you can check through the following steps and find out the real problem.
Check the Power Switch
Whenever your electric scooter gives you trouble, start looking for the problem by checking the power switch. We tend to look for complicated problems, but most of the time, the problem is right in front of us.
If your scooter is not responding, then put the power key in and click it from off to on and back off again few times.
There is a high chance the switch is a little loose. It may start, but if not, then check it with a multimeter. If the multimeter shows the key switch is properly functioning, move on to check the other components.
Check the Motor
The motor is the main component that keeps your electric scooter moving. If you are having a problem starting it, then check the engine. Pick up each wire and patiently check to see if there are loose or disconnected wires.
If you find loose wires, then put them back correctly. If not, then there is also a slight chance that the coil has overheated. There could also be a short circuit in the motor. You can check this by touching or smelling the engine.
If you can smell something burning, then it seems you have found the problem. Under such circumstances, you need to change your motor.
Examine the Battery
If your motor seems to be doing fine then, the next possible problem might be the power source. The next step is to check whether the battery of your electric scooter is working correctly. Is your charger charging the battery or not?
Check the indicator and give it some time to be sure. Longer rides can cause problems for the battery. If you identify the problem is with the charger or the battery, you can quickly get those replaced.
Watch Out for the Fuse
If it is not the motor and the battery, then check the fuse. There is a small chance that something with the fuse has gone wrong. This can be because of the common error of overcharging.
Check the circuit with a multimeter and find out if it is working correctly. If not, then you have to get it changed. Do not delay: a lousy fuse can cause a lot of problems.
Run a Test on the Throttle
What should you do if you find your electric scooter throttle is not working correctly? It means that the speedometer is the real cause for the trouble. Run a test on the throttle. It is advisable to use a 4.5-5 V DC power source along with the multimeter. A multimeter cab show if there is a problem. Once you have confirmed the throttle is the source of your headache, you can quickly get it fixed at a repair station.
Running Out of Battery too Quickly
There may be times when you find that you are running out of battery too quickly. You have charged it for enough time, but your scooter is not working well. What should you do? Here is a simple formula: exhaust the battery entirely and then allow it to charge for 8 hours straight. Do not disturb it.
Once you have completed the process, begin using it. If it is still giving you trouble, then run a voltage test to check. If the test indicates the battery is weak, then it might be the right time to get a new battery.
If the Fuse Keeps Blowing Out Regularly
If a fuse blows out once in a while, that’s a natural occurrence and you have nothing to worry about. If it is a routine matter, then you need to run a thorough check.
Blowing a fuse is an indication of overload, so be cautious about the possibility of discharge. Also, check if the scooter is missing an electrical part. With this problem, you may want to keep an eye on the speed controller too.
Brake Issues
Brakes are one of the essential components of any vehicle. They help you maintain steady control over the electric scooter. Trouble with the brakes is a severe issue.
Another situation can be that one out of two or three of your brakes is not working correctly. You still should not ignore this problem.
First of all, check the brake shoes. Then check the cables linked to the brakes. There is a chance of loose wires. Fix them first, and then drive your scooter. If the brakes still do not work, you might have to replace the brake shoes with new ones.
The Motor is Not Accelerating
If it isn’t easy to speed up while driving, and the scooter motor is not picking up speed while running, do not get agitated.
There is nothing wrong with the engine. It might be that the speed controller is causing the trouble. Run a throttle check. It will give you a fair idea of what the problem is, and then you can get it replaced.
Chain Falling off the Motor
Another common issue is when the chain falls off the motor, this may turn into a hazard. You may lose your balance.
If you have such an experience, immediately inspect the chain, look for a breakage. If not, then align the sprockets. If that too does not work, then get it changed. Do not delay, as this serious problem may lead to an accident.
Another possibility might be that your rear wheel is misaligned. In this case, you have to get it aligned properly by a professional.

Buyer’s Guide: Best Electric Bike Dog Carriers
Here are some factors to consider when shopping for a dog carrier. Some apply to both trailers and baskets, while others specifically pertain to trailers due to their complexity.
Installation Type
Many dog carriers have universal bike and scooter compatibility, but not all carriers are. Check the product description carefully to ensure that it will fit with your vehicle.
Weight Capacity
You should always consider your pet’s size and weight when purchasing a carrier, and choose a carrier that can accommodate your pet. If you have a larger dog, go with a trailer. If your dog is on the smaller end, they may be able to fit into a basket that attaches to the front of a bike.
Pneumatic Tires
Pneumatic tires or air-filled tires are an excellent choice to have on your dog trailer. Dog trailers come with either pneumatic or solid tires. Try to go for pneumatic ones as they will provide a smoother ride on uneven surfaces.
Good Suspension
Suspension is the other factor that determines how well a dog trailer handles uneven surfaces. Good suspension will keep the trailer from shaking or jumping when there are cracks in the road.
Foldable
Foldability of your dog carrier will allow you to take it with you on trips in your car, or store it more easily at home.
Mesh window
Dog trailers all have some configuration of mesh windows to allow airflow inside the chamber. Also, they will protect your pet from both bugs and insects.
Rain Cover
You will find some of the dog trailers come with weather-proof material. Others come with an external rain cover to protect both the trailer and the dog from rain.
Floor Material
Dog trailers can come with two types of floor material: solid foundation and fabric floor. Both these types have positive and negative aspects. Trailers with a fabric bottom are lightweight, whereas ones that come with a solid base can provide more support to your dog.
Hitch
Your dog trailer should come with a universally-designed hitch. It will help you easily attach your trailer to most bikes.
Frequently Asked Questions: Best Electric Bike Dog Carriers
Are Trailers Safe For Dogs?
If you can assemble the trailer correctly and attach it with a solid hitch, it is safe to carry your dog in it. You should ride your bike at a conserved, slower speed and avoid uneven surfaces to safeguard your dog.
Do Dogs Like Dog Carriers?
Most dogs enjoy dog carriers as they can roam around outside the house in the comfort of a carrier, similar to how dogs love car rides. They especially come handy for bringing your dog out to play if they are injured or tired and cannot walk on their own.
What Is The Weight Capacity Of A Dog Carrier?
You will find that most carriers come with a 30lbs weight capacity on average. Though, some of the carriers come with higher weight capacity and others with a limited weight capacity to accommodate only small dogs. Therefore, you should pick a carrier that accommodates your dog properly.
Can Any Bike Trailers Accommodate Two Dogs At A Time?
Yes, there are a few dog trailers available that can accommodate two dogs. If you have two small-sized dogs, you can put them together in a large dog trailer. However, you should check the weight limit of a trailer before you make your purchase to ensure safety and protection of your pets.

Cool Vespa Segway – Electric Scooter
Vespa Segway is made by an Italian scooter brand which is manufactured by Piaggio. Vespa translates to “wasp” in Italian. The brand has evolved from a one model only motor scooter back in 1946 to a complete line of scooters and is just one of 7 companies currently owned by Piaggio.
Vespa
Vespa scooters can easily be recognized since they have a pressed, painted steel uni-body that combines a full cowling on the engine that will protect its motor from any dirt, a floorboard to protect your feet and a front fairing to protect you against the wind. All of this is built together into a single structural unit. They’ve been around for so long, you can’t really go wrong if you buy one. But we’re not here to talk about Vespa’s, we are here to talk about something completely different.
Vespa Segway
But before we get to that, let’s look at the Segway: A 2-wheeled, battery-powered, self-balancing electric vehicle created by Dean Kamen. The word Segway is basically a homophone for “segue”, which means smooth transition. These Segue’s are run on electric motors and can attain speeds of 20 km/h. Users can make it move forward by shifting weight in that direction and backward by shifting weight in the opposite direction. The device can detect changes in the center of mass while balancing itself before establishing or maintaining speed either forward or backward.
Zero scooter
But what would happen if you combined both these distinctive vehicles and give a very cool upgrade to a not so cool Segway? In come the designers from Bel & Bel, a Spanish design house. They have given a lot of thought to the subject and as a result created the Vespa Segway. This new product is called the Zero scooter and is made from parts that have been taken from the Vespa. It looks quite brilliant. Hipsters finally have a new ride.
This is the first self-balancing scooter designed by Corradino D’Ascanio.
In terms of mechanics and electronics, they rely on the world’s leading brand, NineBot. This is why, Zero Scooter is considered the best product when it comes to technology and electronics too. Zero Scooter is basically a “conversion kit” although you can also acquire the whole product or only the kit to fit to your base NineBot. The technical features and integrity of your model won’t be modified if you use this kit. The final consumer will retain all of his rights and official guarantees from the manufacturer too.
This product will certainly help EV’s get closer to audiences who have considered them distant from their realities. It will also bring a fresh feeling to retro designs with the best technology.
